The Black Maternal and Infant Mortality Crisis demands our attention now. Black birthing people, regardless of economic, educational or class standing, are 2-3 more likely to die during pregnancy, birth and the first year postpartum than their white counterparts. Black infants are 2 time more likely to die. Systematic & institutionalized racism is to blame. Black birthing people & their babies need Black care providers to provide high quality care that is outside of these systems of oppression. SDBN supports our local community of Black-owned businesses that specialize in the care of families to improve the gaps in care.
