Bio

Jamie has been involved in women’s health for over 20 years. She taught reproductive health in local high schools, Infant and Child CPR with her local Red Cross chapter, then served as a Women’s Reproductive Health Counselor and Educator in Gabon, West Africa with the Peace Corps from ’98-’00. In 2004 she expanded her massage practice to include working with pregnant women and their families. She is currently a National Board and California Certified Massage Therapist. The birth of her daughter in 2007 opened her heart to birthing women and she started attending births in 2009.

She has deepened her birth practice with ToLABOR birth doula training, midwife Gail Tully’s Spinning Babies® training for Optimal Fetal Positioning (OFP), UCSD Medical Center’s Hearts and Hands doula training, becoming an Educator of Infant Massage with the International Association of Infant Massage, and Dr. Carol Phillips bodywork approaches for OFP (creator of many of the techniques for Spinning Babies). She attended and helped facilitate midwife Nicole Morales‘ Storytelling, Healing, and the Birthworker’s Journey workshop, and has extensive experience with Birthing From Within®: having completed their Introductory and Advanced Workshops, becoming a Certified Mentor in 2016 (like getting a Master’s Degree in Birthing From Within!) maintaining connection with BFW midwives and doulas in San Diego and abroad, actively teaching and mentoring classes, as well as completing training as an Advanced Birth Story Listener®. She currently teaches a Nurturing Swedish Massage course, Perinatal Massage course and a Pregnancy Massage Certification Workshop at Pacific College, regularly facilitates a Massage for Doulas workshop, and leads Mother Blessing (Blessingway) ceremonies.

“Birth is a wonderful opportunity to bring more balance and awareness to our ways of relating to ourselves, other people, and the more-than-human world. In our modern situation, this often means moving forward from an embodied place.  Preparing for birth includes unearthing the kind of knowing that our senses give us access to, the kind of knowing that a mother bear has, rather than just our logical minds. I am committed to compassionate, nurturing, honest support to birthing families, and am so grateful to every family I have had the honor of working with.”
